Uses of Different Series of Cylindrical Bearings in Machinery Parts

Many machines work better on the installation of cylindrical shaped elongated roller bearings than the usual spherical ones. The cylindrical roller bearings have larger amounts of surface area than the spherical rollers, for which their load bearing capacity is also greater than the round shaped bearings.

Moreover, as these cylindrical shaped bearings have more direct contact area with the outer ring of the roller bearing, the machines move much faster with this type of bearings attached at the vital joints.

Prominent Types of Cylindrical Rollers Needed In Industrial Machines

A series named as N series contains a single row of cylindrical shaped roller bearings, containing two fixed rows of cages on the inner ring of the bearing; while the outer ring is absolutely even. Thus, the axial loads can be displaced along the movement of the shaft to some extent, within the casing of the roller bearing.

The NU series of cylindrical roller bearings is just the opposite the previous series, as its external ring contains two fixed cages and the internal ring has totally smooth surface. But unlike a spherical ball bearing, this kind of roller bearing does not have any thrust capacity at all.

But NJ series of single row cylindrical ball bearing contains two fixed cages on the exterior ring and only one cage on the interior ring of the ball bearing case. So the shaft can be moved only in one axial direction.

NUP series is another variety of cylindrical roller bearing, which is quite similar to the NJ series in having two fixed cages on the exterior ring and one cage on the interior ring, along with an additional washer for providing more support.

NF series of cylindrical roller bearing has two structural cages on interior ring and one cage on the exterior ring for which the resultant thrust capacity is same as that exerted by the spherical plain bearings.

NN series and NNU series both contain double rows of cylindrical roller bearings, with some structural differences. NN series of roller bearings have three fixed cages on the internal ring, while its external ring is smooth and single. On the other hand, NNU series has just the opposite structure with three fixed cages on the external ring and perfectly even internal ring. But all these roller bearings also have no thrust capacity at all for carrying large loads.

The cylindrical bearings can bear heavy loads, for which they are ideal choices for making automobiles and heavy machines of manufacturing industries.
